Create Folders
Objective In this section you will learn how to set up folders (or directories) on your local drive. Many web servers have an image folder. Some web editors (for various reasons) will automatically put your graphics in an "images" folders. So it is not only a good way to organize your images but it may save you a headache or two later on. This lesson will take you through the steps necessary to create folders on your hard drive.

Note: If you will not be working on your own personal computer but are using a graphic work station connected to your office network, then it might be a good idea to create these folders in your user directory on the network where they are easily accessible later.

Directories First you need to create folders to organize where your images will be stored. It is best to keep a web project in the same folder (usually called "HTML"). It is also standard to create a nested folder within the HTML folder called "images" to save all you image files.
Steps for Windows 95
  1. Start by launching Windows Explorer

  2. Select a drive to save your files to. (Note, this could be a network user drive if you are on a LAN.) To do this click once on the drive letter.

  3. Go to "File/New/Folder" on your system

  4. Change the name of the "New Folder" to "HTML"

  5. Click once on the folder "HTML"

  6. Go to "File/New/Folder" again

  7. Change that "New Folder" to "images".

If you followed the above steps correctly you should have an "images" folder inside an "HTML" folder on your hard drive.
